Becky signs off from Rio - with love!

Hours after Team GB celebrated their final medal in the swimming pool, Becky sent us her last Rio blog as she prepared to board the plane at the Galeao Airport for home - and baby Summer….

“What a privilege it has been to be here and see these performances in the pool. This is the best British swimming team we have ever had. Their professionalism and attitude has been incredible for me to see. Head coach Bill Furniss, who coached me from the age of 14, says he wants to better the performances in Tokyo 2020 - and I am sure we can.  It was heartbreaking to see the 7 who finished 4th in their races just miss out , particularly Fran Hansall and Hannah Miley, but we have a lot of really young swimmers who have a big future ahead of them. I’m sure they’ll be up on the podium before long.

Personally, I have had a fantastic week. It’s been my first Olympic Games as a non-competitor and the BBC team have been so welcoming to me. Presenter Helen Skelton is very talented and such a joy to work with. I’ve learnt so much from her. I’ve loved our little ‘dream team’with Mark Foster. We’ve had a laugh together because we love what we do - and hopefully that has come across.

I did see some of the sights, and that has given me a real taste for Brazil. But now I can’t wait to get on this plane and get home to my little daughter Summer whom I have obviously missed so much. Then I can relax and watch the rest of the Games on television and radio - I hear the BBC coverage is great !!

Much love

Becky xx
